General Secretary of the Assemblies of God Resigns

According to this article John Palmer, the General Secretary of the Assemblies of God USA has resigned from his position after “a one-time incident that involved ethical misconduct and an inappropriate interaction with a woman that did not involve any physical intimacy.”

It is always unfortunate to read about an ethical failure, especially in Church leadership.  I don’t know Palmer personally, but I have heard him speak, and I would never have anticipated an event like this centering around him.  We should all pray for Palmer, his family, and the AG as they work through this troubling situation.

I don’t doubt that if the Body of Christ functions as it should, this situation can be resolved and Palmer can be restored and continue his service in the AG.  What we must remember about leaders is, though held to a higher standard, they are still human.  A thousand men of more questionable character may never have confessed the situation, and it could have escalated.  Palmer has acted according to the Biblical standard in his confession, and we must act according to the Biblical standard in gently restoring him.

I am not a member of the Assemblies of God, but my prayers are with my brothers and sisters.

God bless!

Josiah
